WhatsApp Plus is trending again, but this time the story is different. For years, many people associated that name with modified apps, unofficial APKs, and tools that promised extra features while putting accounts at risk. Now the same name is being linked to an official WhatsApp premium subscription, focused on customization and chat organization.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Plus is rolling out to a limited number of users and shows a reference price of €2.49 per month in Europe, although the final price may vary by region. This does not mean WhatsApp is charging for basic messaging, calls, or normal chats. The free version continues to exist. The subscription is closer to what other apps do with premium tiers: keeping the core product free while charging for visual and productivity extras.
Reported features include premium stickers, additional color themes, custom app icons, exclusive ringtones, and the ability to pin up to 20 chats. That last feature may be useful for people who manage many work, family, client, or community conversations. Another reported feature allows users to apply settings in bulk to chat lists, which is clearly aimed at heavy users.
The confusing part is the name. “WhatsApp Plus” has long been used by unofficial modified apps, so users must be careful. Nobody should download an external APK promising “premium WhatsApp Plus.” If the official subscription is available for your account, it should appear inside the official WhatsApp app settings and payments should be handled through Google Play or the App Store.
This change also reveals a bigger trend. WhatsApp is looking for new ways to make money without directly charging for private messages. First came Channels, then ads in the Updates tab, and now premium customization features are being tested. The message is simple: free WhatsApp still exists, but the app is slowly becoming a platform with optional paid layers.
The safest recommendation is to avoid suspicious links, avoid modified versions, and check only inside the official app. If someone offers you a paid WhatsApp Plus outside the official store, you are probably not looking at a real subscription. You may be looking at a risk to your account, chats, and privacy.
